Brynäs IF Swedish Champions

Silfverberg and Svedberg big heroes when Brynäs won the Swedish Championship after 2-0 in the sixth final.

Brynäs celebrated 100 years as a club by winning the Swedish Championship after winning the final series against Skellefteå 4-2. Brynäs had a 3-0 lead after three games but needed three games to take the fourth win.

Just in like all the other final games Skellefteå had a lot of puck possesion and many chances but just couldn't score. Brynäs goalie Niklas Svedberg has had a great playoff and after being rested in the last game he made another great game today with 29 saves for the shutout.

The other big hero for Brynäs was Jakob Silfverberg who made 13 goals in the playoffs, and the 13th goal was not an unlucky one as it was the championship wining goal. The goal was scored 13:50 into the second period and was a great shot by Silfverberg from long range. Ryan Gunderson added a 2-0 goal with another great shot in the third period, Johan Larsson and Calle Järnkrok assisted on both goals. Skellefteå had chances but if not Svedberg stopped them their shots hit the post or the bar.

Brynäs were not one of the big favourites before the season but has done a very good season with an offensive style. Tommy Jonsson has done a great work in his first year as head coach for a senior team, taking a young team to gold. Brynäs has been lead by players like Jakob Silfverberg and Calle Järnkrok, the return of Mattias Ekholm from NHL was also important for the team that doesn't have many big stars but many solid players.

For Skellefteå it was a big dissapointment to lose the final again, the difference was scoring efficiency and goaltending. Skellefteå had many more chances than Brynäs Svedberg in Brynäs goal was much better than Joacim Eriksson in Skellefteå's goal. Skellefteå will have to wait another year for a chance on the title and they could have a good chance to keep most of their team. For the golden team Brynäs there could be a risk of many players leaving the team after the success. But first there will be a lot of celebrating!
