Team Canada was luckier in Breclav’s night to beat Russians 4-2.
The Canadian players started into the first period with great speed and will. They took a 2-goal lead to the end of the first when Matt Dumba and Kerby Rychel beat Andrei Vasilevsky. In the first minutes of the second Alexei Filippov’s solo ended with cutting the goal score 1-2. The Russian team played a great second period, creating a lot of chances in front of Matt Murray’s net. But Rychel killed all their hopes with a nice goal after a fast counter-attack. The third came with the same scenario as the second. Russian tried but the Canadians scored. Felix Girard added his goal to a whole deal, but it wasn’t all for this game. Anton Slepyshev with 4 minutes remaining in the third closed it 4-2 for team Canada.
“The Canadians were a better team tonight. But I’m confident that everyone in our team gave his best to this game,” said Russian defenseman Andrei Mironov.
“It was a good, tough game as we can see it was a classic Russia-Canada game,” said head coach of Team Canada Jesse Wallin.
