The Danish and Latvian hockey federations have agreed to apply together for the 2017 IIHF World Championship. The tournament would be played in Riga and Copenhagen with the final and semi finals in Copenhagen.

In May 2013 the IIHF Congress in Stockholm will decide where the World Championship 2017 will be played.

Denmark and Latvia have agreed to apply for it together. It is planned to be played in Copenhagen and Riga.

The new arena in Copenhagen, Copenhagen Arena, should host the final, the bronze medal game and the two semi-finals, and also another 30 games in the arena that is planned to be completed in 2015.

In addition, Copenhagen will host the World Congress.

The president of the Danish federation says:

"We have assessed that cooperation will Latvia will make us stronger economically. The ice hockey World Championship is one of the world's largest sporting event, and the event will be the largest ever in Denmark, so it is clear that from a risk assessment it is better to share the hosting with another country"
