Galkan is the first hockey champion of Turkmenistan

After three months of games, Turmenistan has its first champion

 
 
 
 
Hockey Club Galkan, representing of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is the first champion of Turkmenistan. Eight teams took part in the first Turkmenistan League, held in Winter Sports Complex in Ashgabat, the 10.000 places arena built by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to promote ice hockey in the country. Competitions are held in two rounds on 28 games each. Shir HC gained a decisive victory (16-4) against HC Bagtyyarlyk and won the second place. Nesil HC finished third. Oguzkhan HC (the Turkmengaz State Concern) that defeated 10-3 Merdana HC (the State Border Service of Turkmenistan) in the last match took the fourth place in the tournament and won the right to participate in the Turkmenistan Cup in April, 2014 along with first three teams. Thus, Merdana HC won the fifth place, HC Bagtyyarlyk (the team of Sports School of the State Committee for Sports) was on the sixth place, Vatanchi HC (the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan) ranks the seventh and Alp Arslan HC (the Ministry of Communication) ranks the eighth.
Pavel Barkovsky (HC Merdana/HC Shir) was the top scorer of the league, ahead of Meylis Kuliev (HC Nesil HC) and Alexander Vahovsky (HC Galkan). The organizers of the tournament awarded Alexander Vahovsky, who is also the coach of Galkan, as the championship MVP and best forward. K. Charyev (HC Galkan) was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament and Ishan Veliev (HC Shir) the best defender
