Red Bull Salzburg - Dornbirn Bulldogs 0-1

Red Bull and Dornbirn crashed sticks to begin the series today in Salzburg. For the home side young Slovene Luka Gracnar got the coache's confidence and was put between the pipes. On the other side Adam Dennis stood firm.

Dornbirn opened the game nervously, Brett Sonne got the call for interferene at 1:30 into the game. Although Red Bull couldn't capitalize on the powerplay, they got the game's first goal at 5:19 through Andreas Kristler. Sonne redeems five minutes later and sets up the goal for Graham Mink together with Alexander Jeitziner.

Mink returns the favor at 38:15 assisting Sonne and Dornbirn find themselves up ahead for the first time. Mark Cullen spoils the good mood for the visitors after the second break. At 41:15 he ties the game at 2 which turned out to be the final result and took the game to overtime. A minute and exactly one second was enough for James Arniel to light the lamp and get Dornbirn ahead in the series.

Orli Znojmo - Black Wings Linz 1-0

Black Wings remain winless in Znojmo. They just can't find a way to beat the Czechs on their soil. It looked like they might get close after the first period when they had the lead 3:1, but Znojmo came back strong and took the game to overtime. At 74:13 Michael Kolarz wins it for the Czechs.

Jan Seda gets the home team on the board as early as 1:43 on the assists from David Bartos and Michael Kolarz. The pageantry wasn't long-lasting though. With a pair from Andrew Jacob Kozek at 7:01 and 14:01 respectively and another one from Franklin MacDonald, Linz took a huge lead. At least it seemed huge.

After the break Linz had three penalties in a span of 12 minutes and it left trace. At 36:05 Patrik Novak finally beats Micheal Ouzas and tightens the lead for Linz to only a goal. After the second intermission Antonin Boruta takes the game into overtame with a powerplay tally ten minutes prior to the end on a fine solo effort.

Despite having the man advantage in overtime when Martin Podesva was called for delaying the game, Linz couldn't capitalize a 4-on-3 opportunity before Kolarz wins the game for Znojmo.

Vienna Capitals - Villacher SV 1-0

Vienna had a very good start to the first game against Villach and pulled to a 3:0 lead. Villach come from behind and make it 3:2 by the start of the third period but that was as close as they had got to getting a good result tonight.

Vienna rallied to the huge lead through Benoit Gratton and Michael Schiechl in the first period. Andre Lakos added another one midway through the second. As the second period started the game turned aggressive and was marred by penalties. A lot of penalties were handed out for roughing and the hosts found the way out of the mess.

Stefan Bacher at 35:09 and Brock McBride at 44:09 blessed their fans and brought about some hope back. Though Justin Keller bueries another powerplay goal for the Caps and puts the game to an end. Villach tried pulling the goalie Jean Philippe Lamoreux during the last two minutes, but it didn't help much.

Bolzano Foxes - SAPA Fehervar1-0

An explosive start to the game announced how the series between the two might look like. After only 21 seconds of play Macgregor Sharp lights the lamp for the Italians, but Adam Naglich levels the score at 1:54. Bolzano couldn't capitalize on a 5-on-3 powerplay after Aprad Mihaly and Andy Sertich were spending their time in the penalty box. To make matters worse for the home side Andrew Sarauer capitalizes on SAPA's first powerplay of the game six seconds before the break during Alexander Egger's cross-checking call.

SAPA kept a strong record throughout the game and were tough to break despite having 10 minutes of penalty killing, whereas Bolzano only had 6. Marco Insam ties the game at 48:17 forcing another overtime, third tonight.

Kim Stromberg scores on Mark Santorelli's assists late in the first overtime period, at 79:43 and Bolzano will take the lead in the serie prior to going on the road in Hungary.

Jaroslav Hubl stopped 24 shots on the way to the win.

Powerplay's didn't work tonight - only 4 goals on 44 powerplay opportunities. Also three out of four games went to overtime to determine the winner.

Second games of the quarterfinal series are set for Sunday, March 9th.
