Mannheim’s streak snapped by Köln

After 7 consecutive wins the dominating DEL team Adler Mannheim fell to the Kölner Haie yesterday. Berlin is on the move back to the top.

It took the DEL teams 7 games to stop the latest run of Adler Mannheim, which are dominating the regular season so far, but yesterday Köln could get away with a 3-2 win out of Mannheim. Although it did not look like it in the first period. Mannheim held a 12-9 shot advantage over the Sharks and could benefit from it late in the period when Andrew Joudrey finally scored.

In the second period Mannheim still outshot Köln 11-8, but this time the Sharks were way more efficient than their counterparts. Alexander Weiß, Charlie Stephens and Chris Minard could give the game a 180 degree spin and the guest team took some confidence out of it. Their defence got better and better and so Mannheim was only able to score one more goal in the last period (again it was Joudrey) on a powerplay.

Mannheim still carries an 11-point margin over the second placed EHC München to Wolfsburg tomorrow, where they will look to establish a new winning streak.

For the Kölner Haie the win was very important as they could not just secure their current Pre-Playoff spot, which they regained over the last weeks, but they were also able to shorten the gap to the Playoff spots to only 6 points now.

Meanwhile Kölner Haie‘s former coach Uwe Krupp is helping another big player in the league to get back into the top group. Yesterday’s win against Wolfsburg was Berlin's 7th win in a row, which got them into 5th place now. But it took them a while to come out victorious. Christoph Höhenleitner brought Wolfsburg ahead at the half time mark of the game, which Alex Trivellato could equalize 7 minutes later. Jens Baxmann’s game winning goal came only with 2:18 minutes left on the clock. Barry Tallackson added an empty-netter.

Just one day before Christmas Berlin could beat the Kölner Haie 6-1 with a strong game by Marcel Noebels, who scored 3 goals and added one assist.
