The club was founded in 1968 as part of the multisports club Amiens Sporting Club following the inauguration of the first ice rink of the city of Amiens. In 1982, the club earned a promotion to the elite. However, in 1990, poor financial results by the Amiens SC forced the hockey section, that was until then known as the Écureuils de Picardie, to split and exist as an autonomous entity. The name Hockey Club Amiens Somme and nickname Gothiques d'Amiens were then adopted.
