The Hannover Scorpions and Nürnberg Ice Tigers have no chances left to reach the playoffs. Best home team Augsburger Panther had to take a loss on their own ice against Kölner Haie which throws them back in their fight for a playoff spot as Iserlohn, Düsseldorf and Munich won.
EHC München - ERC Ingolstadt 3:2 SOIn the Bavarian derby between Munich and Ingolstadt the fans didn't have to wait long for a goal. After not even a minute Timothy Hambly received a two minuted penalty for hooking and a few seconds before the end of it Eric Schneider opened the score for the hosts (3.). Later in the period Ingolstadt tied the game through Luciano Aquino (17.). In the middle period it was the same picture: Eric Schneider brought Munich in front (32.) and Ingolstadt scored the equalizer - this time through Thomas Greilinger in the power play (49.). The last 20 minutes saw only few chances on both sides and as also the overtime found no winner, the shootout had to decide over the winner. In the fourth round of the shootout it was Brandon Dietrich who was the only player to score and gave home team EHC München the extra point.
Augsburger Panther - Kölner Haie 2:3For Cologne it was a difficult task to take away points from Augsburg as the Panthers are the best home team of the league and had only lost four games on their own ice prior to this match. The Sharks had won its last game at home against top team Adler Mannheim earlier this week so that the fans could expect an open game between two direct competitors for a playoff spot. The Panthers had the better start and Andreas Farny (8.) scored through the five-hole of Sharks goalie Youri Ziffzer. In a great first period with a total of 29 shots on goal both teams failed more than once with best opportunities and so the result didn't change during the rest of the first 20 minutes. In the middle period Charlie Stephens tied the game for Cologne after only 49 seconds - in a two-on-one situation he did it himself and scored into the left bottom corner. Now Cologne took over the initiative and Matt Pettinger turned the game around completely when his short hander entered the back of the net (35.). Not even a minute later the guests received the equalizer scored by John Zeiler who only had to take the rebound after Sean O'Connors wrap-around attempt. With 1:55 left in the period Alexander Weiß brought the lead back to Cologne which was sucessful in its only power play of the game. In the last period they concentrated on defending the lead which they didn't give up anymore. Now Cologne has brought a seven point distance between themselves and Augsburg and can dream again to reach a top-6 playoff spot.
Adler Mannheim - Straubing Tigers 4:3 OTThe top game of the DEL matchday between Adler Mannheim and Straubing Tigers couldn't have had more different starting situations. Mannheim had lost five of its last six games while Straubing won four times in a row. Despite that the hosts started well into the match and Ronny Arendt scored the lead for the hosts after only 86 seconds. In a very active middle period Straubing turned the game around with three goals in 13 minutes - Matt Hussey, Andrew Canzanello (in power play) and René Röthke had scored fot the Bavarians. Late in the period Adam Mitchell cut the guest lead to one when he was sucesful in his power play attempt. In the last 20 minutes it was Mannheim which dominated the game and as a consequence also did tie the game through Christopher Lee in a 5 on 3 power play with ten minutes left on the clock. As no more pucks entered the goal line until the sound of the horn, the match went into overtime where Adler Mannheim had six to one shots - and the game winner by Christopher Lee with his second goal with 30 seconds left to get the extra point for his team.
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - Hannover Scorpions 2:1 OTIn the derby of Lower Saxony the favourites from Wolfsburg had the better start and went in front after only 94 seconds through Sebastian Furchner. In the following time bottom club Hannover Scorpions became the better team on the ice but had to wait until the 29th minute when Scott King tied the game in a power play attempt. As the result didn't change during the last 20 minutes, over time had to bring the winner and Matthew Dzieduszycki did get the game winner for the hosts (63.).
Iserlohn Roosters - Eisbären Berlin 4:0 Iserlohn had won two of its last three matches against current DEL champion Eisbären Berlin. Also in Friday's duel they proofed that they are on the same level with Berlin - at least when they meet each other. After a goalless first period, two goals by Christian Hommel and one by Dave Spina in not even eight minutes were enough to make clear who was going to win this game. After Spina's goal the working day was over for Eisbären goalie Rob Zepp. His backup Kevin Nastiuk was only able to avoid another goal for a bit more than three minutes until Mike York made the final result of 4-0 in favour of the Roosters perfect. Until the end of the match Berlin kept the disappointing loss at least a bit tolerable. Iserlohn has now four points advantage to the non-playoff spots while Berlin stays first.
DEG Metro Stars - Hamburg Freezers 4:0Düsseldorf had a very imporant win against Hamburg. Simon Danner and Daniel Kreutzer scored in the first two period to get the hosts a comfortable lead. A short handed goal by Evan Kaufmann and a power play goal by Andrew Roach in the last period made the final result of 4-0 pefect. The Metro Stars could say "thank you" to their goalie Sébastien Carion who earned a shutout by saving all 36 shots on goal of the Freezers. Düsseldorf was quite more effective by scoring with every fourth shot on goal. Two days before the derby against Cologne the Metro Stars now have got a four point distance to the non-playoff spots.
Nürnberg Ice Tigers - Krefeld Pinguine 0:2In a match with few interesting events on the ice the Krefeld Pinguine kept alive their playoff dreams but as the competitors from Iserlohn, Düsseldorf, Munich and Cologne all won the distance is still eight points. For Nürnberg also the last chances for the playoff have died by having 17 points less then the 10th with only a dozen games left. Herberts Vasiljevs had opened the score for Krefeld after four and a half minutes and Roland Verwey decided the match with less than three minutes left to play.
