Avtomobilist sensationally beat Salavat Yulaev 6-2, Ak Bars outplayed Traktor in Chelyabinsk and hat-trick of Dustin Boyd against Neftekhimik.
Avangard 5-3 SKAAvangard beats SKA 5-3 and goes to the EHT break at the 5th place in the East. Avangard played this game more concentrated than SKA which ended in Omsk their road trip. To the middle of the game Avangard had a 3-goal lead with Alexanders’ goals from Frolov, Popov and Perezhogin. At 22 seconds of the third Dmitry Kalinin cut the home team's lead which was resumed 30 seconds later when Perezhogin made a double. Sergei Kalinin scored the fifth goal of Omsk at 53:43. SKA managed only to cut a 4-goal lead to a 2-goal lead with accurate shots by Vitaly Vishevsky and Yevgeny Artyukhin. SKA earned only 2 of 9 points during the road series but still lead in the West and have equaled points with the best East team Traktor.
Barys 7-4 NeftekhimikBarys beat at home Neftekhimik which still is trying to get into the playoff zone. But the game for the away team began quite good. Alexander Islamov opened the scoring at 04:45. To the end of the first Barys scored three times and got a comfortable lead with the help from Andrew Hutchinson, Brandon Bochenski and Dustin Boyd. Neftekhimik coaches replaced their goalie Tuomas Tarkki for Denis Franskevich after first 20 minutes. Dustin Boyd in a power-play made a double at 34:12 but a minute later Igor Polygalov returned a 2-goal lead for the Kazakh team. Barys' Canadians played a nice combination where Boyd and Bochenski assisted to Nigel Dawes who made it 5-2 at 46:10. The game could go to an end quietly but Maxim Pestushko and Oskar Osala within one minute made the score 5-4. But 9 seconds later Dustin Boyd made his hat-trick perfect after a pass from Brandon Bochenski. The game was closed with 2 seconds remaining in the third when Bochenski scored an empty-net goal.
Avtomobilist 6-2 Salavat YulaevThe most sensational result was the fixture in Yekaterinburg where the worst team of the league Avtomobilist crushed current Gagarin Cup holder Salavat Yulaev 6-2. At 36 seconds of the game Alexei Krutov dished a pass to Nikolai Bushuev who opened the scoring in a breakaway. With 39 seconds to play in the first Alexander Streltsov fired from the board to beat Ufa goalie Nikita Davydov. During a 2 minute span in the middle of the second Avtomobilist increased their lead to 4 goals with accurate shots by Ilya Malyushkin and Alexei Krutov. Salavat Yulaev began the third period very aggressive and beat Avtomobilist goalie Yevgeny Lobanov at 34 seconds with Denis Platonov’s goal. Vitaly Proshkin with his classical goal from the blue line cut the Avtomobilist lead to 2 goals at 46:45. In the end of the game Avtomobilist scored
twice with Denis Abdullin's empty-net goal and a power-play by Nikolai Bushuyev.
Traktor 2-6 Ak BarsTraktor was close to become the leader of KHL standings but was beaten at home by Ak Bars Kazan. After a goalless first period Ak Bars was on fire in the second. All began when Alexei Morozov used a pass from Danis Zaripov to open the scoring at 15 second of the second period. Niko Kapanen, Josef Straka and Yevgeny Skachkov made the score 4-0 to the end of the second. After the second period the nightmare continued for Traktor and in the third Zaripov made it 5-0 at 43:39. 13 seconds later Petri Kontiola used a pass from captain Vladimir Antipov to beat Kazan goalie Petri Vehanen for the first time this night. Traktor D-man Alexander Ryazantsev scored his 16th goal this season with a quick wrister. Now best sniper D-man Kevin Dallman has only one goal over Ryazantsev. The game was closed with Ak Bars play 5-on-3 when Danis Zaripov made it 2-6. The native of Chelyabinsk Danis Zaripov earned 3 points today.
Metallurg Mg 3-2 Dinamo RigaDinamo Riga after a nice start of the road trip ended it with a loss against Metallurg Mg. Metallurg gradually increased their lead to 3 goals. Firstly Juhamatti Aaltonen scored at 08:47 with a pass from Tomas Rolinek then Sergei Mozyakin in the end of the first increased the lead. The third goal was scored after a nice sole move from Enver Lisin. Only then the Latvian team woke up and began to play. Girts Ankipans was first on the rebound after Marcel Hossa’s shot at 32:41. Three minutes later Hossa with a nice high shot made it 3-2. And it was the last thing what Dinamo did this night. They made 40 shots and 38 of them were stopped by Ari Ahonen who played another great game for Metallurg Mg and made the best present for himself before tomorrow’s birthday.
Yugra 2-1 SO AtlantYugra won the first game of their home series when Atlant did get a real chance to improve their position in the West after the loss of Dinamo Minsk. At 16:46 Tomas Starosta stopped Atlant forward Nikolai Zherdev by slashing. Yugra was penalized by a penalty shot which was converted to a goal by Zherdev. Early in the third Vitaly Sitnikov tied the game and turned the match into a shootout series where Yugra won the extra point. Their goalie Mikhail Biryukov stoned 34 shots and denied three penalty attempts and led his team to a victory.
