For the first time ever a club outside the Stockholm region wins the Swedish championship.
Modo beat Brynäs 1-0 to become the first team ever outside Stockholm to win the Swedish women's championship.
Maria Lind scored the goal in the first period assisted by Erika Grahm and Victoria Samuelsson.
"It feels wonderful! Indescribably! We have heart the whole game - all fighting for each other", she says immediately after the final whistle to modohockey.se.
Valentina Lizana in Modo's net made 35 saves to earn the shutout.
"I am so happy – don't know what to say. I am so incredibly proud", she says to modohockey.se.
The final was played in one game only in front of 590 spectators in AXA Sports Center.
In the regular season Modo finished second and Brynäs on top so it was no surprise that the two would meet in the final.
In the semi final Modo beat Linköping 6-3 away and 5-0 at home. Brynäs qualified for the final after three games against Munksund-Skuthamns SK (1-3, 5-2, 5-1).
