Norfolk Admirals wins Calder Cup

For the first time ever Norfolk Admirals, farm team of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning, won the AHL playoffs - Calder Cup. Admirals won all four final games against Toronto Marlies.
Norfolk Admiral won game 4 of the 2012 Calder Cup finals 6-1 to complete the 4-0 sweep of Toronto Marlies in the best-of-7 finals. Tyler Johnson scored two goals and added two assists in the last game. Cory Conacher recorded four assists.
Norfolk Admirals were outstanding during the AHL season 2011/12. Admirals completed the regular season with a 28-game winning streak to finish on 113 points, 14 points better that the second best team Oklahoma City Barons. In th post-season the Admirals won 15 games and lost only 3.
In the first round of the playoffs Admirals eliminated Manchester Monarchs 3-1. The toughest series was the conference semifinal against Connecticut Whale which was won 4-2. The conference finals against St. John's Ice Caps were easily won 4-0.
The Norfolk forward Alexandre Picard who scored nine goals in the playoffs was named Calder Cup MVP.
Norfolk Admirals used four European players in the 2012 post-season. Forwards Ondrej Palat (CZE) and Richard Panik (SVK) and defenseman Radko Gudas (CZE). Slovakia's Jaroslav Janus was back-up goalie and played in four of the 18 playoff games.
