Chomutov crushes Sparta Praha
29 Aug 2012 | Dennis Mende
On Wednesday only four teams had to compete in the European Trophy. In the first edition of matches between clubs of the same country the home sides were succesful.
Pirati Chomutov - Sparta Praha 7-0 Considering that only a first place group finish would guarantee the qualification for the Red Bull Salute, you can easily suggest that Sparta Praha has run into serious trouble with a terrible performance in their away game against their future Extraliga rivals Pirati Chomutov. Their defense was also rather shaky in previous occasions but never as much as today.
The match was pretty even until two power play goals at the end of the first period let the Pirates lean back in the first intermession with a 2-0 lead. When David Koci was in the penalty box it took the hosts only five seconds to go in front at 14:38 through Patrik Lusnak who deflected a shot fired by Petr Mrazek. Two minutes later Sparta found itself in a power play situation but couldn't use it. Instead they took a penalty and Jaroslav Hlinka had to go out for tripping. When Chomutov had a man more on the ice again they scored with just three seconds left through Martin Rygl. In the middle period Chomutov goalie Milan Rehor did a great job and made possible a three-goal lead after Nikola Gajovsky made it 3-0 at 18:34. In the last 20 minutes the spectators could see a complete break-in by Sparta. Roman Chlouda, Martin Rygl, Jaroslav Hafenrichter and Stepan Hrebejk made the final score of 7-0 perfect. Pirati goalie Milan Rehor had no more problems to get his first ever ET shutout. With 40 saves he was also elected man of the match. On the other side Marek Schwarz had a really dark night.
ERC Ingolstadt - Adler Mannheim 4-2 Home side ERC Ingolstadt earned a very important home win against their DEL rivals Adler Mannheim that let them take a three-point difference to the second position in West Division. Derek Dinger put the hosts in front after just five minutes but at the end of the first period Frank Mauer tied the match for the Eagles. When Derek Hahn and Joe Motzko get a two-goal lead for the first time until "halftime" the reaction through Christoph Ullman followed almost immediately. Early in the third period Tyler Bouck already decided the match. Adler Mannheim, this year's DEL finalists, once more disappointed in the European Trophy this season.
