Good DEL debut for lockout stars Daniel Brière and Claude Giroux but no points for their team, Eisbären Berlin. Mannheim and Augsburg struggle.
In a sold out O2 Arena in Berlin both Daniel Brière (1G, 2A) and Claude Giroux (3A) who usually play for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL had three points each for their lockout team Eisbären Berlin. But in the end the league leaders Kölner Haie had the better finish with a 6-5 win in regulation. Team captain John Tripp earned two goals and an assist for the guests who now have won 9 out of 10 matches - with 25 points they are already 11 points ahead of current champion Berlin.
Second placed Adler Mannheim came under fire heavily in their home match against Krefeld Pinguine (1-5). Early in the third period the Penguins decided the game with three consecutive goals.
Four consecutive goals in the second and third period made possible the 6-3 away win of ERC Ingolstadt in the Bavarian derby against the Augsburger Panther. Man of the match for Ingolstadt was Joe Motzko with one goal and three assists. On the other side Brian Rollof scored twice for Augsburg.
One of the few top teams that won in DEL on Friday were the Hamburg Freezers who beat Iserlohn 2-1 after turning around the Roosters lead in the second period. After just 25 seconds of the middle period Mark Ardelan earned the lead for Iserlohn but within 10 minutes Christoph Schubert and Duvie Westcott made it 2-1 for Hamburg. Freezers lockout player Jamie Benn had an assist in the equalizer by Schubert.
In another Bavarian derby Nürnberg lost at home against Red Bull München. Ryan Kavanagh and Martin Hinsterstocker had pathed the way for the away succes of München before Yasin Ehliz brought hope back to the Ice Tigers. In the middle of the third period Jason Ulmer got the two-goal lead back to Hamburg which turned out to be decisive.
Another team of the lower parts of the DEL table with three points was Düsseldorfer EG. Although Stephan Daschner opened the score for guests Hannover Scorpions at 17:43, two goals within two and a half minutes of the second period by Thomas Gödtel and Drew Paris made sure the home win.
