Champions Hockey League - Group C
Today Eurohockey present you the four teams from group C: Frölunda Gothenburg, Villach SV, Genève-Servette and Briançon Diables Rouges.
Frölunda Gothenburg
One of the Swedish clubs with more ressources start on the favorites position in this group C. Nilsson, Klinberg and Wennberg will play in NHl organizations, Anhelöv will play for Modo and Axelsson chose Davos for his new home. But the responsables from Gothenburg teams confidence in the new faces. From HV 71 came the two new defense players, Fälth will bring experience and Fantenberg has everything to be successful with the new club. For the forward position Frölunda chose young players with huge potential. Young Finnish player Lekhonen(KaIPa) is the best exemple. Detroit Red Wings prospect Matthias Janmark also chose Frölunda for the next step in his career.
Villach SV
Can Villach SV replace the two top-scorers from last years EBEL-League? Derek Ryan(to örebro) and John Hughes(to Salzburg) were nothing more than great, both with more then 80 points in the regular season. To replace the two stars Villach chose stability by choosing three players from EBEL-League. John Lammer from Klagenfurt, François Fortier from Vienna Capitals and Mark Santorelli from Bolzano. The Villach season will depend a lot of the performance of those three Canadian players.
Genève-Servette
Probably the most enigmatic team in the Champions Hockey League. It will be a long season for Genève with the participation in four competitions(League, Cup, Spengler and Champions). The departures are more then enough to give Genève's boss Chris McSorley a lot of nights without sleep. Tobias Stephan will defend Zug's cage, Hollenstein will return to Kloten, Almond return to Minnesota, Petrell sign with Lülea, Daugivins with Dinamo Moscow and Lombardi to the New York Rangers, just to mention the biggest departures. To replace such important pieces, McSorley will try to do some Gestafix(Panoramix for other countries) style. What kind of potion he will bring for the Vernets arena this season? Robert Mayer from Hamilton Bulldogs will defend the cage, Paul Ranger, Matt D'Agostini, and the brothers Tyler and Tom Pyatt bring NHL experience to the group. Jeremy Wick from NCAA is expected to do a good season. Can Genève be happy this season? We will soon find out.
Briançon Diables Rouges
After a four year domination by Rouen in the French league, we have a new champion: The Briaçon Diables Rouges. The victory was the result of stability and hard work. Each year Briançon does better then the last and for the next season the expectations are the same. Between the pipes Shane Madolora from Tulsa Oilers(CHL) will replace Roman Quemener(Jukurit- Mestis). In defense Guillaume Michelon chose to play next year with GAP and Richie Crowley with HC Bolzano. To replace them Briançon chose two Canadiens. Corey Pritz(Univ. of Calgary) and Matthieu Gagnon from Missouri Mavericks(CHL). From the top-line Marc-André Bernier and David Labrecque chose to stay with the team and Denny Kerney sign with Frisk Asker(Norway). To replace Kerney, Ian McDonald from Beibarys Atyrau(Kazakhstan) will join the French Champions.
