Kloten, Lugano and Davos take home victories
01 Nov 2014 | Andreas Reiner
All three home teams were able to keep the points at home.
Kloten Flyers 4 - EV Zug 3 SO
In the team of Coach Felix Hollenstein Marcel Jenni and Lukas Stoop
missed the game due to concussion, a return might be possible after
the national team break next week. The Flyers had a lucky start into
the game with a 2 man advantage after 2 minutes. Tommi Santala
passed the puck from the right face-off circle to Hollenstein Jun.
who just needed to hold the stick next to the post and net the first
goal of the game. A little less than a minute was left in the period
when Tommi Santala was benched for hooking even when it seemed that
his counterpart fell rather easy but the firs period ended with a
1-0 lead for the home team.
Through the second period, Zug got stronger but couldn't capitalise
on their chances but gave the Flyers defence some head ache from
time to time. The period almost over when Denis Hollenstein and
Santeri Alatalo were benched for roughing. The puck dropped in Zug's
zone when Simon Bodenmann scored his first goal of the season with a
hard slapshot, assisted by Jim Vandermeer and Micki Dupont.
It seemed like a rather slow start into the final period but just
one and a half minutes were played when Romano Lemm scored the 3rd
goal of the game, assisted by Lukas Frick and Captain Victor
Stancescu. Zug on the other hand, seemed to take a night off from
scoring and missing chances en masse. It took Zug 50 minutes to get
on the scoreboard a first time, when Top Scorer Pierre-Marc Bouchard
got the first goal. And just seconds later, it seemed that Kloten
had forgotten how to finish games when Robbie Earl doubled up the
score within seconds and forced Klotens coach to take the time-out.
With less than 3 minutes left Cyrill Bühler was benched for hooking
and now the Flyers box play was forced to a last effort but Reto
Suri had other plans and scored the game-tying goal from near the
blue line. And so the game went to overtime, but with less than 2
minutes left, Patrick von Gunten was forced to take a rest after
high sticking his opponent but the Flyers got through the boxplay
without receiving a goal. The shootout would decide the winner of
tonight's game. Lino Martschini scored first for Zug and Romano Lemm
did the same for the Flyers. Josh Holden and Victor Stancescu both
missed on their attempt when in the third round Bouchard and Santala
netted the puck. Dario Bürgler was next but Gerber took the chance
and Denis Hollenstein scored on Tobias Stephan. Reto Suri had to
score but again it was Gerber who stopped the puck and secured 2
points for the home team.
HC Davos 5 - Servette-Genève 2
Enzo Corvi was the first scorer for Davos on a powerplay just over a
minute into the game in the Davos hockey cathedral. Just after 10
minutes, Geneva's Daniel Rubin was benched for roughing and it
didn't take Marc Wieser too long as he scored the 2nd goal on an
assist by Marcus Paulsson. The second period remained scoreless but
Davos started again with the beginning of the last period when
Andres Ambühl in the 43th minute and Ville Koistinen in the 47th
minute made it 4-0. This gives the already highest scoring team
another 4 goals and totals up to 83 goals. Then finally, the romands
got the first goal of the game when Matt D'Agostini scored
unassisted. It got even better for Geneva when Tom Pyatt scored the
2nd goal but Andres Ambühl with his second goal of the evening took
any hope that was left with Servette and won it 5-2.
HC Lugano 3 - Ambri Piotta 1
It was derby time in Ticino and this meant that the game would start
late due to broadcasting reasons. And both teams took their time
with scoring, almmost 17 minutes passed before Steve Hirschi netted
puck for Lugano's first goal. The second period brought 2 quick
goals, first it was Adrien Lauper in the 44th minute and only 37
seconds later, Lugano's top scorer Fredrik Pettersson gave his team
the lead back. In the dying seconds of the game, Ambri removed their
goaltender for a 6th attacker but when Fredrik Pettersson had the
chance to get the empty-netter he was taken down but awarded the
technical goal. Ambri now with 7 losses in a row while Lugano is
climbing up the stands.
