Sheffield Steelers sack title-winning coach Gerad Adams
After what would be regarded as a rather successful season by most, the Sheffield Steelers management have decided to sack their Canadian head coach, Gerad Adams, To the surprise of the vast majority of everyone involved in ice hockey in the UK.
Adams lead the Steelers to their 8th
league title this season as well as taking the Yorkshire club to the Elite
League play-off final just 15 days ago.
The news has come as a shock to most but
Sheffield's owner, Tony Smith, seems to want a complete overhaul at the club.
Sheffield will participate in the upcoming Champions Hockey League tournament,
along with Braehead.
The Steelers released a statement earlier
today. "The Sheffield Steelers confirm they have released Gerad Adams from his
contract with the club."
"The decision comes after an end-of-season
review by club ownership and management on the direction the Steelers need to
take moving forward."
It would seem that Sheffield place the
Champions League as their main objective next season and see this as a much
needed chnage of culture at the club.
So far, no names have been mentioned as a possible replacement for Adams.
But speculation is building that Adams could find himself employed at Nottingham.
