Sweden got a 2-1 shoot-out win over Canada in Sunday's World Championship final in Lanxess Arena, Cologne.

Tre Kronor (Three Crowns) won the IIHF World Championship gold medals for the tenth time after an exciting final against Canada. The game was still tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of overtime and according to the IIHF rules, the game then has to be decided in a best-of-5 shootout. Canada couldn't beat Henrik Lundqvist on four attempts but Sweden scored twice on Calvin Picard: Nicklas Bäckström in the second round and Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the third.

Victor Hedman gave Sweden the lead with a lucky short-handed goal in the final minute of the second period.

"I got a fortunate bounce. I wasn’t really friends with the puck there in the second period, so I just threw it at the net, and Joel and Krugs did a good job in front of the goalie. I don’t think he really saw it.", Hedman says to IIHF.com.

The next time Canada got a powerplay, Ryan O'Reilly needed only 10 seconds to tie the game.

Both goalies were brilliant and were named the best players of the game. After 80 minutes of play the shots on goal were 43-41 for Canada.

Last time Sweden won the World Championship was 2013 and last time they beat Canada in a big final was at the 1994 Olympics.
