Bronze for Steelers
Sheffield close the Superfinals with a victory, reaching the third place: Renon is fourth for the second year
Renon and Sheffield play the last effort of
their disappointing campaign at Superfinals with the only goal to avoid the
last place, placing already got last season by Renon in the Superfinals at
home. Italian has Thomas Spinell suspended after the major penalty taken
yesterday, while Steelers has Finnish Miika Franssila back in the roster after
the light injury. No chances for Roberet Dowd, his Continental Cup finished
after the first game.
The first period, played in slow pace, ended
with Steelers up to one goal, scored by Andreas Jamtin at 15:48, finishing a
confusing action on power play in front of Killeen cage. At the beginning of
the the second period Renon has a couple of power plays not exploited, risking suffering
the second goal when Killeen must rebound on Fretter and Roy. At minute 30 Kyle
Jean wastes a capital chance firing on Mustukovs with no opposition. Same
chance on the other side for captain Jonathan Phillips, stopped by KIlleeen. At
33:38 Matt Marquardt completes a
coast-to-coast serving Jonas Westerling for the 2-0 Steelers. In the last period
the game becomes nervous, with less chances and more contacts. At 55 Killeen seals
a satisfactory performance with a really reactive save on Roy. Steelers controls the game grabbing a bronze,
deserved after all, for what seen on the ice in this weekend. For Renon the
last place for the second year in a row, possibly with less expectations here
in Minsk then last season at home. Looking for the glass half-full, Italian are
again among the top four clubs
