Finland beats Russia at Carlson Hockey Games
With three powerplay goals, one in each period, Finland beat Russia 3-1 in Brno.
On paper Russia should have the better team with start such as Kucherov, Malkin and Ovechkin but thanks to a strong Finnish powerplay and a weak Russian team effort Finland won today's EHT game in Brno.
With a lot of luck Finland took the lead after five minutes. Harri Pesonen's shot was redirected by Russian defender Dinar Khafizulin and left Russian goalie Alexander Georgiev without a chance. The 2-0 goal was scored from the blueline by Mikko Lehtinen in the middle of the second period. The third Finnish goal was also a powerplay goal from the blueline when Oliver Kaski beat Georgiev for 3-0.
When Russia had pulled Georgiev Alexander Ovschkin scored the only Russian goal of the day at 59:09.
Finland played well today while the Russian coach Ilya Vorobyov has a lot of work to do before the World Championship starts in Slovakia in six days.
