The Euro Hockey Tour started despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first EHT tournament of the season was played in Finland. After some doubts if the tournament should be played or not due to the pandemic it was played. Finland is one of the countries in Europe that has had the fewest cases per capita so far and on Finland's games a few thousand spectators was allowed in Hartwall Arena that usually seats over 13,000 spectators.
The other teams were not happy when Russia announced they would their junior team to this senior tournament. But in the end Russia went through the tournament unbeaten after big wins against Finland (6-2) and Czech Republic (3-0). Sweden was the only team to take a point agsinst Russia but still finished last after losing 2-3 to Finland in the last game after being up 2-0.
Even if all teams had inexperienced rosters it was notable that a junior team could dominate the tournament. Russia had six of the nine top scorers of the tournament. Vasily Podkolzin was best with five points. Rodion Amirov was the best goal scorer with three goals in three games.
