KHL, DEL, National League and SHL set new attendance record in 2024/25 season
DEL, Swiss National League, KHL and SHL all set new attendance records in 24-25 season. Kölner Haie and SKA St. Petersburg are the clubs with the most spectators
According to an analysis by Metaratings.ru, the Kontinental Hockey League has set a new record for average match attendance by the end of the 2024/25 regular season, reaching 7,256 spectators per game (excluding Neftekhimik matches played without fans). This achievement places the KHL as the third most attended ice hockey league in Europe this season.
The highest attendance in European hockey was recorded in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), with an average of 7,781 spectators per game. This not only marks a record for the DEL but also establishes a new European benchmark, surpassing the previous 7,500 attendance threshold.
The Swiss National League secured the second position with an average of 7,365 spectators per match. Like the KHL, the Swiss league also broke its record for home game attendance.
Beyond the top three, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) averaged 6,636 spectators per game, also that a new record, followed by the Czech Extraliga with 5,350, and the Finnish Liiga with 4,645. This highlights the KHL's strong position among Europe’s leading hockey competitions.

Following these leagues, the KHL recorded an overall average attendance of 7,256 spectators. Breaking this down further:
- Russian clubs alone averaged 7,261 spectators.
- Western Conference teams averaged 7,533 spectators.
- Eastern Conference teams averaged 6,996 spectators.
- The top 14 KHL teams averaged an impressive 9,135 spectators per game.
The KHL also set a record for total attendance, with 5,706,785 fans attending matches throughout the season. This marks a 10.4% increase compared to the previous year, surpassing the 7,000 average spectator mark for the first time in league history.

Among KHL teams, SKA St. Petersburg recorded the highest average attendance at 17,648 spectators per game, setting a new record for Russian hockey. Dynamo Minsk also made history with an average of 14,446 spectators, setting a club and national record for Belarus.
A total of 14 KHL clubs surpassed the 6,000-spectator mark per match, the highest number in league history. Additionally, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod achieved the best arena occupancy rate at 100%. Notably, SKA’s official attendance often exceeded the arena's listed capacity, while Lokomotiv Yaroslavl reported no official sellouts due to its capacity being recorded at 9,070 seats.
