Atlant Moscow was founded on December 20, 1953, then under the name Khimik (1953-2008) in Voskresensk. Khimik played its first game on December 27, 1953. Immediate success allowed Khimik to play in the Championship of the Soviet Union. Leading the team was playing-coach Nikolai Epstein. In three short years, Khimik was graduated to the top league of the Soviet Union. Three bronze medal results between 1965 and 1984 were capitulated in 1989 when the team achieved silver under prestigious head coach Vladimir Vasiliyev, a major accomplishment for a team from a small town. More impressive is how much successful homegrown talent as come out of the Khimik system, withs names including future Stanley Cup winners such as Igor Larionov and Valeri Kamensky.
In the spring of 1998, the status of the team changed, representing not only the city of Voskresensk but also the entire Moscow Oblast. This event took place on their 45th anniversary. During the 2005-06 season, the team relocated within the Moscow Oblast, from Voskresensk to Mytishchi. Following this, the team changed its name to Atlant, prior to its inclusion in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Atlant Moscow Oblast won’t play in next KHL season
As reported by website Chempionat.ru KHL President Dmitri Chernyshenko has officially confirmed that Atlant Moscow Oblast will not participate in the next season of KHL due to financial problems. "Because of the financial problems Atlant won't be on ice next season. We' ll see what will happen next"- said mr. Chernyshenko. Junior teams, including Mytischi Atlantes of the MHL, continue to operate regularly
(22 May 2015)Voskresensk Ice Palace dedicated to Nikolai Epstein
Voskresensk District Administration has decided to remember Honored Coach of the USSR, and honorary citizen of Voskresensk Nikolai Epstein by dedicating the Ice Palace of Sports simply known as Podmoskoe (suburbs).
Epstein led Khimik for 22 years. Under his leadership the team won twice the bronze medal in the championship of the USSR. Among Epstein alumni are stars as Valeri Kamensky, Igor Larionov, Valery Zelepukin and Sergei Berezin. The ceremony will held on December 14, when club celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk signed a farm team agreement with Kristall Saratov, while Atlant Moscow Oblast will have Buran Voronezh as farm team.

Atlant Moscow Oblast and Buran Voronezh signed an agreement on mutual cooperation. Thus, in the season 2013/14 Voronezh team will be Atlant farm club in the championship VHL.

Swedish coach Jan Karlsson was fired by Atlant Moscow Oblast after losing 1-4 at home against Dynamo Moscow, the eighth defeat in the last nine games. Assistant coach Alexander Smirnov was promoted as new headcoach

Forward Igor Musatov and defender Andrei Zubarev, both from Atlant, left the Russian national team.

Salavat Yulaev and Atlant interrupted game
The KHL Opening Cup game between the Salavat Yulaev and Atlant was interrupted in the 15th minute because of the tragedy in Yaroslavl.
The head of the KHL Alexander Medvedev addressed the fans in the stands asking them to honor the players and coaches of Lokomotiv with a minute's silence. Then he took the teams to the dressing rooms for consultations on whether the match should be continued.
After 20 minutes, Medvedev addressed the fans again, saying the players had asked him to cancel the game. The public in Ufa stadium applauded and the match was cancelled
