Game recap

The hunt for playoff spots continued Sunday night with a crucial game between the Dundee Stars and the Manchester Storm. The Stars looked to bounce back at home after the previous night’s 4-1 loss to the Nottingham Panthers, while Manchester looked to break their seven away game loosing streak.

At the start of the game it was easy to tell there was a lot at stake, there was few chances for both teams none of which troubled either netminder. The teams exchanged possession in each other’s offensive zones before Harrison Ruopp opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle through traffic which beat Sjogren over the glove. The game returned to being cagey as neither team wanted to give away scoring chances. The Stars came out in the second as they had for parts in the first.

The increased energy in the second by both teams was fuelled by a fight between Logan McMillan and Kris Inglis with the Stars man bringing life to the Dundee Ice Arena. The Stars took this energy and applied more pressure which lead to a great individual play by Charles Corcoran that was handled by Ginn. The Stars number 89 did shortly after manage to beat the storm keeper after a Shawn Boutin point shot with 5:35 remaining in the second to even the game up going into the third. The third started how the previous periods had gone before, end to end play with the Stars having the better of the chances including a partial break away for Johan Andersson which was denied by Ginn

The Stars though they had taken the lead when Matt Marquardt was first to his own rebound and beat Ginn with a quick shot but couldn’t beat the bar. Seconds later Ciaran Long gave the Storm the 2-1 lead as the storm rushed up ice and long was first to a rebounded Rob Linsmayer shot. Just 9 seconds after a lengthy delay to determine if the goal would stand Manchester doubled their lead with a Luke Moffat goal.

The Storm extended their lead shortly after through Long’s second goal of the game with a smart wrap around finish. The Stars halved the deficit with a goal from a broken play the Shawn Boutin reacted first to forcing the puck home past Ginn. The Stars opted for the extra attacker with 1:45 left in the game but a series of good saves by Ginn would secure the win for the Storm.
