After these teams shared 15 goals last night, there were just the 11 on offer at the SkyDome this evening as the Flames took shootout win.
Guildford were ahead early, powerplay goals from Calle Ackered at 3:53 and Jamie Crooks at 4:57 had the visitors in the lead. Coventry were however level in just over seven minutes of the game as Shawn Pauley and then Tim Crowder on the powerplay tied it up with goals 48 seconds apart. There were still more goals to come in the opening period as Pauly put the Blaze in the lead at 16:08, only for TJ Foster to tie it up again 30 seconds later. Three each after 20 minutes!
Brett Ferguson put the Flames back into the lead midway through period two, and when Ben Davies found the net at 43:53 the visitors led by two. Coventry have recently become comeback specialists, and another one was on when Dillon Lawrence pulled one back at 49:51 – and he then assisted on Luke Ferrara’s tying goal with 5:20 to play.
The game was to be decided in a shootout as the teams finished level after 60 minutes; tonight it was Guildford who took the extra points thanks to Jamie Crooks’ winning shot.
