Cardiff will need just a point tomorrow in Coventry to secure their third straight league title after thrashing Milton Keynes at the Viola Arena.
The game was effectively over after a dominant opening period from the Devils, after which they had raced into a four-goal lead. In a game they had to win, Sean Bentivoglio calmed any Devils nerves when he put the hosts ahead 33 seconds in with a one-timer, followed just under seven minutes later by Layne Ulmer deflecting Charles Linglet’s shot past Patrick Killeen. Gleason Fournier made it three just past the 14-minute mark from close range, before, Evan Mosey’s solo effort make it four at 18:28.
The impressive Linglet scored 7:10 into period two to make it 5-0 as he skated past Cole Shudra with ease, and just under four minutes later Matt Pope poked the puck home from close range for six. Pope struck again, as did Joey Haddad, before the period was over to give the Devils an eight-goal lead after 40 minutes.
Linglet rounded off the scoring for the Devils at 55:42, before MK’s excellent travelling crowd were given something to cheer about – James Griffin tipping a Georgs Golovkovs shot to have the last word, and also score the first goal by a visiting team at the Viol Arena in the month of March.
The Devils know exactly what they need to do tomorrow on the road, while MK sign off their season at home on Sunday night
