Fife certainly had the better start in this game, racing into a two-goal lead thanks to Bari McKenzie at 3:01 and followed by Joe Basaraba at 9:17. Chris Stewart pulled one back for the Panthers at 11:33, but they were back two behind just shy of the 17-minute mark as Mike Cazzola struck for the Flyers. An eventful opening period still however had one more goal to come, Dylan Richard pulling the Panthers again back to within one with 2:13 left to play in the opening 20 minutes.
