Game recap

Guildford Flames now lead Group B of the Challenge Cup thanks to a home win over Cardiff by the odd goal in three.

Period one ended all square as the sides traded powerplay goals. With 6:35 gone Jamie Crooks finished after some patient Flames build-up to give the hosts the lead; but with 2:38 left in the period Guildford were guilty of not clearing when they had the chance, and Mike McNamee wristed home from the circle to tie things up.

Period two almost ended without goals, but Guildford were to take the lead 2:58 from the end - Owen Griffiths the scorer to put the Flames back ahead.

The final period was referees with three officials after one unfortunately had to leave the game through injury. With no more goals from either side Cardiff pulled Ben Bowns for the extra skater, but despite a late powerplay there was no way through for the Welsh side and Guildford took a 2-1 win.
