Game recap

Guildford avenged their defeat in Sheffield 23 hours earlier by beating the Steelers 4-2 on Sunday night in Surrey.

It was the opening 20 minutes where the Flames did most of their damage, and in particular a four-minute spell where they scored three goals. Jamie Crooks was first on the board with a slapshot at 9:04, before Ian Watters made it two 57 seconds later. Just shy of the 14-minute mark Cam Braes put the Flames into a three-goal lead, although Eric Meland pulled one back for the Steelers within 33 seconds.

Kruise Reddick’s powerplay goal at 30:03 gave the Flames some extra breathing room again, although Anthony DeLuca cut the arrears back to two 30 seconds before the middle period was done.

A fine defensive effort from the hosts in the third period ensured the game would be won in 60 minutes.
