Cardiff Devils logged another home win in front of a sold out building with a 3-2 victory over Glasgow Clan on Sunday afternoon in the Welsh capital.
It was a goalless opening period at Ice Arena Wales, although both sides enjoyed a powerplay each to try and break the deadlock.
Clan came out strong in period two and peppered Mac Carruth's net in the opening five minutes but to no avail. A Colton Waltz minor eventually led to the game's first goal - Matt Register blasting home from the point 46 seconds into the man advantage to put the Devils ahead at 35:34. Carruth was involved in action in the final 12 seconds of the period, but not for a save he had made - the Devils' netminder reacted angrily to a slash form Nolan LaPorte, leading to the pair both dropping their gloves and receiving roughing calls on the play.
The additional slashing penalty on LaPorte led to the Devils doubling their lead at the start of the third period - 26 seconds had been played when Brodie Reid fired through the tightest of gaps on Shane Starrett's post. A well-taken goal from Mikko Vainonen got the Clan back to within one at 41:48, which set up a very tense period.
Clan had chances to force an equaliser but couldn't beat Carruth who ended with 28 saves. Malcolm Cameron pulled Starrett to go for the extra skater inside the final minutes, but Reid found the empty net from his own zone with 31 seconds left to round off the win for Cardiff.
