The Coventry Blaze faced off against the Belfast Giants in a exciting game on Sunday evening between the third and fifth before action started.
The Blaze got on the board early with Brady Norrish firing a big slapshot from the blue line just under four minutes into the game. Belfast fought back, Scott Conway scoring a quick shot to beat the Coventry goaltender in the middle of the first period. The Giants continued to dominate, with Sam Ruopp's one-timer on the powerplay late in the first period putting them ahead by the first intermission.
Coventry drew level in period two through Nathanael Halbert's scoring a quick wrist shot that found the top shelf of Peyton Jones' net on the powerplay.
As both sides pushed for a winner in period three, Ross Venus' drop pass was intercepted and allowed the Giants to break the other way with Mat tFoley beating Paavo Hölsä five-hole with 6:03 to go. After Hölsä was pulled for the empty net, and after a series of draws in the Giants' end, David Goodwin found the empty net to put the game to bed with 13 seconds remaining.
