Coventry Blaze made it four points out of four against Sheffield Steelers with a 4-3 overtime win at the Skydome on Sunday afternoon.
The Blaze got off to a strong start in the opening period with Mitch Cook scoring the first goal of the game at 10:59 on the powerplay, tapping in a cross-ice pass. However, the Steelers quickly responded with Brendan Connolly netting a deflected puck from in front of the net at 13:46. The Blaze didn't let the goal get them down, as Nathanael Halbert scored the third goal of the period at 16:46 on the powerplay, giving the Blaze the lead again.
In the second period, the Blaze continued their offensive push with Kim Tallberg tucking the puck into the net amidst some chaos in front of the goal at 25:16. However, the Steelers weren't ready to give up, and Martin Látal scored the team's second goal of the game at 33:31, tapping in a pass from Robert Dowd on the powerplay.
The third period was tense, with both teams fighting hard to secure a win. The Steelers managed to tie the game up with a goal from Scott Allen at 52:40, a shot from a tight angle that found its way past the Blaze's goaltender after the Blaze had let a 5-on-3 advantage go at the other end.
The game went into overtime after a 3-3 tie in regulation. After some chances either end, Ross Venus went through on the breakaway after a long pass from Colton Yellow Horn and won the game for the Blaze with a quick wrist shot on the breakaway at 62:59.
