Coventry Blaze extended their unbeaten streak to eight games and logged their seventh straight win in the league with an overtime win over Glasgow Clan at the Skydome - their second OT victory over Clan this weekend.
Alessio Luciani almost opened the scoring inside the opening 22 seconds but only found the pads of Antti Karjalainen while clean through on a breakaway, while Aiden Spellacy hit a post and Kim Tallberg missed an opened net as the Blaze somehow failed to score in the opening 20 minutes.
Clan come out for period two and had some chances of their own, eventually taking the lead at 25:22 off a bad turnover by the Blaze in their own zone leading to Darien Craighead setting up Luke Lynch for the finish. Coventry were level before the period was out with a Tallberg tip off a Danny Kristo shot beating Karjalainen low to tie things up with 33:17 played. Ian McNally had a golden chance to put the hosts ahead a couple of plays later but Karjalainen got across his crease to make the save.
Bryce Reddick put Clan back ahead with 11:26 to play as Clan turned defense into attack within a matter of seconds. The visitors should have made the game save with a late 2-on-0 opportunity but they couldn't find the decisive pass to settle the game. That backfired with the Blaze pulling Kozun at the 2:30 to go mark, and Tallberg found a loose puck in the crease to tie the game at 58:33.
In overtime, Kristo let an excellent shot fly from the wing which sailed past Karjalainen to get the Blaze the bonus point.
