Goals and assists
Cardiff Devils kept up the pressure on league leaders Sheffield
Steelers with a 6-0 blanking of Fife Flyers at the Vindico Arena, a
night after they were beaten 7-5 by Guildford Flames in cup action.
A
goal in each period helped the Devils build a 3-0 lead despite som
excellent chances for the Flyers. cole Ully opened the scoring with 7:19
played in what was the only goal of the opening period, although the
Flyers survived two penalties to keep themselves just one behind.
The
Flyers had a good middle period and should have levelled before they
fell two behind. Marcus Crawford's Slashing infringement resulted in a
penalty shot, but Ben Bowns denied Teemu Pulkkinen the equaliser. The
home side then also rode out a Trevor Cox penalty before the Flyers took
a bench penalty allowing Cole Sanford to blast home at 33:48.
Cole
Ully made it 3-0 46 seconds into period three with an excellent finish
past Shane Owen. Joey Martin then made it four for the Devils with a
patient finish having come from behind Owen's net to score his 201st
goal in the Elite League. Ully completed his hat trick at 53:54, while
Josh Waller scored for the second straight game to make it six. Ben
Bowns held on for a 20-shot shutout.
