Goals and assists
Ben Bowns logged his third shutout of the season, stopping 35 shots
as Cardiff Devils blanked Guildford Flames 4-0 at a sold-out Vindico
Arena on Saturday night.
Josh Waller opened the scoring under five
minutes into the game, finishing off a cross-ice pass from Trevor Cox
to make it 1-0 at 4:56. Cody Donaghey then made it 2-0 on the powerplay
with a shot over the shoulder of Eamon McAdam. Guildford had a 5-on-3
spell during the period but couldn't beat Bowns who kept the Devils up
by two heading into the break.
Donaghey scored his second of
the game and his second on the powerplay at 33:07, converting on a feed
from Cox. With 15 seconds left in the period, Josh Batch stepped up to
pick off a pass inside the Flames zone and chipped the puck to Joey
Martin who sent Cole Sanford in on a breakaway to beat McAdam and make
it 4-0.
The Flames pressed in the final period to spoil the
shutout, but Bowns was in top form and the one puck that got behind him
was swept away by a Devils defenceman to keep the scoreline 4-0.
