Goals and assists
On a night where Shane Owen was honour for breaking the franchise
record for appearances by a goaltender, Fife flyers secured a big two
points to move themselves a win clear of the teams chasing the playoff
places.
A eventful opening period in Kirkcaldy saw the Flyers
come from behind the lead by one after 20 minutes. Off the back of a
midweek, shutout defeat just two days prior to Nottingham, the Flyers
found themselves a goal behind to Jordan Klimek's shot deflecting in
front of Owen Griffiths with 2:37 played. Teemu Pulkkinen levelled five
minutes later with a fortunate bounce off the backboards landing on his
stick in front, while at 11:32 the turnaround was completed by some
quick hands from Jonas Emmerdahl to fire past Taz Burman in the slot.
Troy
Lajeunesse got onto a big rebound from a Kyle Osterberg shot to put the
Flyers 3-1 ahead just 11 seconds into perod two, although Ryan Hughes
managed to get the puck over the line 68 seconds later to bring it back
to a one-goal game. A three-goal burst inside the opening two minutes of
the second was completed by Lucas Chiodo who deflected Drake Pilon's
pass out of mid-air to beat Burman at 21:52.
It stayed a two-goal
game until the closing stages at the Auld Barn, when Shirley tipped
Lajeunesse's pass behind Burman with 1:41 to play to seal the Flyers'
win.
