Goals and assists
Sheffield Steelers scored five straight goals to come from two down and beat Glasgow Clan at Braehead Arena.
An
excellent sliding save early from Matt Greenfield stopped Clan going
ahead in the opening stages, but the home side started well and deserved
to be ahead after 20 minutes. Liam Finlay opened the scoring at 11:37
when he cut in from the wing and beat Greenfield high.
Finlay was on target again in period two to put the Clan up by a
pair, this time coming in at the far post and shooting near side with
the puck just creeping through Matt Greenfield just 28 seconds into the
period.
A great defensive play by Simon Despres prevented the Steelers
converting a 2-on-1, while Landon Bow was on good form to deny a few
chances as the visitors looked for a way back into things. Sheffield got
themselves back level thanks to two goals in 19 seconds. First, Dominic
Cormier found a way through at 38:14 before Sasha Guimond’s shot in the
slot beat Bow high to level the game.
Brandon Whistle netted a loose puck around Bow to put the
Steelers ahead 77 seconds into period three and complete a three-goal
comeback just over three minutes. Mark Simpson's goal at 49"37 gave the
visitors some breathing space, while Clan's hopes of a comeback were
all-but extinguished when Mitch Heard was ejected for spearing with 5:01
to play. Patrick Watling added a fifth for the visitors with 3:52 to
play to wrap up an important win for the Steelers.
