The first period started in close fashion with Coventry and Cardiff going back and forth in chase of the first goal of the night. That was until the 07:43 mark, where the Devils were gifted the powerplay following a Jackson Cressey tripping minor. Fortunately for the Blaze, they were able to pull together a successful penalty kill and deny any goal-scoring attempts.
The favour was returned for Coventry 19:27 into the period as Josh Batch found himself a slashing minor. Despite the away team not being able to find any opportunities in the remainder of the first, they were able to enter the second with a 1:27 powerplay left on the clock.
Despite the man advantage, Coventry were unable to convert and shortly found themselves on a penalty kill after Mike Kennedy picked up a minor for tripping at the 23:35 mark. Fortunately for the Devils, this meant that just over a minute later, Josh MacDonald was able to get the puck past Mat Robson after a battle in front of the net, leading to the first goal of the night for Cardiff at 24:44. The Blaze attempted to equalise after being gifted a 5-on-3 powerplay however, Ben Bowns put together a serious display of talent to deny any scoring opportunities.
The third period only saw one goal also and it came from the visitors who were able to tie the game on the 5on3 powerplay. A shot from Gresock from the point would ricochet off of the glass and land perfectly in front for Jackson Cressy to tap home. The equaliser would be good enough for a point each and OT would be up next.
And it would be the away side who complete the come back and score the winning goal with only seven seconds left in the extra period. Seitz would do really well to get away from his man and find himself all alone in front of the net to tap home a Cressey feed and the Blaze would ride out come-back winners, 1-2.
