Glasgow Clan moved back into seventh place in the Elite League with a comfortable 4-0 win over Fife Flyers. Lucas Brine stopped 26 shots for his first ever EIHL shutout.
There was no repeat of Wednesday night where Clan scored six in the opening period, although the home side did dominate the possession and led by one after 20 minutes. Liam Finlay opened the scoring with 3:54 gone when he cut in from the wing and across the front of Shane Owen’s crease to finish high. Owen made an excellent save sliding across his crease to deny Tyson McClellan doubling Clan’s lead with the home side’s next best chance of the period, but the hosts weren’t able to add to their lead despite outshooting the Flyers 19-8 in the opening period.
Clan added two more in the second period to lead 3-0 through 40 minutes. Rylan Schwartz finished from a tight angle at 25:19 after the Flyers turned the puck over in their own zone, while another shot was reviewed to see if it had gone it but was instead an excellent Owen blocker save. Just under five minutes before the end of the period, the puck broke kindly to Matt Stief to make it 3-0.
The only goal of the final period, and final goal of the game, was an excellent individual effort from Mitchell Heard. The Clan forward skated from his own zone, past a couple of Flyers defensemen, and calmly slotted past Owen 1:58 into period three.
Clan were worthy winners and heavily out-shot the Flyers, while stay rooted to the foot of the table.
