Game recap

Glasgow Clan conceded late to be taken to overtime by a battling Fife Flyers, but had captain Deven Sideroff hit the winner in overtime to take a 5-4 OT win over their Scottish rivals in Kirkcaldy in the Auld Barn.

"It wasn't our best game as a team, but we're learning to stick with it and stick with the game, and the results are showing that" said the Clan captain post-game. "It feels good for the whole group. We need these wins right now in the league and it was very important for us to get this one."

Brodie Kay saw a shot come back off the post in the early stages as the Flyers created some of the better chances. They deserved went ahead through Max Musorov’s shot form the top of the circle that beat Lucas Brine high with 9:44 played. Tyson McLellan levelled at 11:41 when he got on his own rebound off the back boards to be Shane Owen a little under two minutes later.

A quick start to period two saw Ryan Foss finish off a nice Patrick Kyte pass just 11 seconds into things to put the flyers back ahead. Clan turned the game on its head with two goals in the final seven minutes of the period, however. Owen stopped Reece Kelly’s initial shot, but Steven Seigo worked the puck to Cole Ully for a tap-in in front of the net at 33:51. Just under five minutes later, Ully crashed home a shot from the point to put Clan 3-2 ahead with a powerplay goal. Clan up by one through 40 minutes.

Lucas Chiodo’s pass to the net was deflected past Brine to Michael Cichy to tie the game at 50:36 and bring both sides to life for an exciting finish. It looked as if the visitors had stolen the points when Sideroff buried a shot high past Owen from a tight angle with 2:22 to play, but the Flyers weren’t done. Owen was pulled with 52 seconds to go, and with 27 left on the clock the puck bounced kindly to Cichy at the far post to tie the game up.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, overtime was played as it should be with numerous odd-man rushes. Clan should have won it but someone missed an open net, while at the other end of the Flyers tried a pass instead of a shot and saw a couple of opportunities to begging. The goal that won it saw Clan’s captain Sideroff peel off on the weak side and beat Owen at 63:10 to secure a four-point weekend for Clan.

"We need to stay hot as a team right now and keep this rolling into next weekend" concluded Sideroff.
