Glasgow Clan logged a 5-4 win over Coventry Blaze on country music night at Braehead Arena.

A Chase Grescock shot from the point brought Landon Bow into work as Clan killed a Too Many Men minor some seven minute into the period. Indeed, Clan took two minors inside the opening seven minutes which saw the Blaze start the better and on the front foot.

It was Glasgow who took the lead, though, just under 15 minutes into the game. A Chris McKay shot from the point was tipped past Mat Robson by cpatain Deven Sideroff at 14:40.

Clan could easily have gone two ahead on the very next play but saw Cade Neilson shoot just over after Robson had made the initial save. The home side felt that Brady Pouteau should have been sitting a major, but when he took a minor a few moments later they doubled their lead thanks to Sideroff working the puck neatly to Mitch Heard at the far post for a tap-in with 65 seconds remaining in the period.

Robson kept a Tyson McLellan shot off the line early in period two, but on a powerplay it looked like only a matter of time for the Clan to go further ahead. A well-placed Matt Berry pass found Liam Finlay on the far side of the slot to crash a one-timer past Robson 4:53 into period two. Rylan Schwartz fanned on the final shot on a Clan tic-tac-toe play that should have made it 4-0 around the midway point of the period.

Captain Sideroff scored his second of the night and the Clan’s fourth when he beat Robson five-hole at 29:47 to put the home side in complete control.

Coventry did get on the board when a period of pressure led to a Chase Gresock throw on net deflecting over Bow’s line off Alex Forbes on 35 minutes. Michael Regush found himself through 1-on-0 on Bow shotly after but saw his shot come back off the crossbar. Clan were otherwise well worth their lead after two periods.

Any hopes the Blaze had of a final period comeback were dealt a large blow by Robert Lachowicz’s goal putting the Clan 5-1 ahead 3:26 into period three. Finlay and Tyson McLellan had chances to make it 6-1, but after Robson bailed his team out Archie Hazeldine pulled a second back for the Blaze. An Alessio Luciani shot out of nowhere then sailed by Bow and into the net with 8:14 to play to bring the Blaze back to within two.

With the net empty and an extra skater, Cressy made it 5-4 with 2:44 remaining. Clan held on for a 5-4 win despite a valiant fightback effort by the Blaze.
