Game recap

Guildford Flames scored early and were never behind in a 7-4 win over Fife Flyers on Saturday night, condemning the hosts to their second loss in as many nights.

Brett Ferguson blocked a shot in his own zone, pounced on the loose puck and skated down the ice to beat debutant Janis Voris five-hole and give the Flames the lead with 2:18 played. The Flyers needed only 55 seconds to level through Maxim Musorov on a loose puck, but Lewis Hook tipped a Charlie Dodero one-timer past Voris at 10:37 to put the Flames back into the lead.

Daniel Catenacci beat Voris shorthanded 3:52 into period two as things for better for the Flames with a 3-1 lead. Again the Flyers cut the deficit back to one, though, with Michael Cichy getting them back into things at 25:48. A nightmare situation for Voris at 34:18 saw the puck take a weird bounce off the boards and the Latvian goalie end up playing the puck straight to the stick of Ethan Strang who slotted into the open net to put the Flames back two ahead.

Cichy scored his second of the game 2:57 into the final period to bring things back to 3-4, but Sean Norris capitalised on a defensive mixup at the other end to put the Flames back two ahead less than two minutes later. Again the Flyers responded, this time Phelix Martineau waiting for him moment to shoot past Jake Kupsky which may have been tipped by Cichy in front for a hat trick, but again it took the Flames under two minutes to hit back – this time through Daniel Catenacci. Ethan Strang settled the game on an empty net with 1:47 to play as the Flyers shipped seven goals for the second straight game.
