Goals and assists
Dundee Stars logged their first win since 24 November with an 8-5
victory over Scottish rivals Glasgow Clan, splitting the series with
them in Week 16 with a win each.
The first period in Dundee
featured end-to-end action for the two teams, as both goalies faced
high-quality scoring chances throughout. Despite this, the Stars scored
the only goal of the period, as Xavier Pouliot found the back of the net
for his first of the season at 14:15. The puck fell to the Canadian in
the offensive zone, who sent a shot from the point that beat Lucas Brine
blocker side and made it 1-0.
Brendan Harms doubled the Stars’
lead on the powerplay, tipping a shot from Zach Tsekos past Lucas Brine
to make it 2-0 at 24:31.
The Clan responded instantly at 24:42,
as an incredible solo effort from Deven Sideroff made it 2-1. The
forward skated with the puck from the neutral zone to the Dundee net,
beating Richard Sabol with a backhand shot to get his team on the
scoreboard.
After Sabol made an initial save on a shot from Deven
Sideroff, the puck fell to Simon Despres, who fired it into the open
net to equalise at 29:23.
A failed zone clearance by Glasgow was
caught by Ben O’Connor, sending the puck to Brett Gravelle in the high
slot who restored the lead for Dundee with a wrist shot that beat Brine
at 31:46.
Jake Elmer converted on a 5-on-3 powerplay at 34:36,
receiving a cross-crease pass from Spencer Naas and shooting the puck
into the Clan net to give the Stars a two-goal lead.
A takeaway
in the Dundee zone allowed Tyson McLellan to breakaway shorthanded,
where he beat Sabol blocker side at 35:37 to make it 4-3 heading into
the third period.
Kameron Kielly made it 5-3 early in the third
period after picking up a pass from Spencer Naas and skating down the
right wing, beating Brine with a wrist shot at 40:27.
Brendan
Harms scored his second goal of the game at 51:08, banking the puck off
the back of Brine on the powerplay to make it 6-3.
Glasgow pulled
Lucas Brine to deploy an extra attacker after gaining a late powerplay
opportunity, which Liam Finley used to make it 6-4 with a wrist shot
past Richard Sabol at 55:08.
Jake Elmer netted his second goal of the game at 57:51, firing the puck into an empty net to make it 7-4.
Reece
Kelly pulled a goal back for the Clan at 58:13, scoring his first of
the season with a shot over Richard Sabol’s shoulder.
Brendan
Harms completed his hat trick at 59:52, sending the puck into an empty
net and sealing the win for the Dundee Stars, breaking an eight-game
losing streak.
