The Devils would get on the board just before the nine minute mark of this one. Gourley with an inch-perfect pass would find Donaghey at the back post who would slot it home to give the visitors the lead.
A second would be found only a few minutes later. An intercepted pass would send O’Brien in on a breakaway and he would make no mistake slipping it five-hole on Fiske at 11.01.
An answer from the home side within the last five would half the deficit. A neat play between Harms and Haas would find Tsekos all alone in front and at the end of the first twenty, the visitors would have a 1-2 lead.
Cardiff dominated play throughout a scrappy second period, with Jarrett Fiske being forced to stand on his head and make a number of key saves to keep the team in the game.
A messy play in the Stars zone allowed Zach O’Brien to net his second goal of the game, sending puck past the glove of Fiske from a tight angle to make it 3-1 at 36:46.
The Stars, who entered the third period down by two goals, had an ideal opportunity to get even as they began with a four-minute power play. However, a strong penalty kill from the Devils prevented them from getting set up in the offensive zone or generating any high-danger chances.
As the clock wound down, the third period remained scoreless, with Cardiff claiming the two points in the end while Dundee remain on the hunt to secure the final playoff spot.
