In the opening game of the World Junior Summer Showcase on July 28, 2024, Team USA edged out Finland with a 3-2 victory.
Joona Saarelainen scored twice for Finland, putting them ahead early and again in the second period. Quentin Musty and Cole Hutson scored for the USA to tie the game twice. The decisive goal came from James Reeder with just under a minute left, assisted by Hutson.
