In a thrilling overtime match on August 23, 2024, Switzerland edged out Austria 6-5 in a preseason game held at the Bundesstützpunkt Arena Füssen, witnessed by 53 spectators. Despite Austria dominating the first period with a commanding 5-0 lead, Switzerland mounted a remarkable comeback to win the game in overtime.
Austria came out strong, scoring five goals in the first period, including two from Paul Sintschnig and one each from Peter Schuster, Elias Wagner, and Ivo Ressi. Switzerland's goalkeeper Noam Aebischer struggled early but stayed in net for the entirety of the game.
Switzerland began their comeback early in the second period. Liam Vaucher scored just 10 seconds in, followed by goals from Noel Bosshard and Gian Lamprecht to reduce Austria's lead to 5-3. Alessandro Domenichelli netted two consecutive goals-one late in the second period and another in the third-to tie the game at 5-5.
The game was forced into overtime, where Liam Vaucher scored the game-winning goal at 62:39, assisted by Lamprecht and Kellan O'Leary, completing Switzerland's dramatic comeback. Despite Austria's strong start, Switzerland's resilience carried them to a thrilling 6-5 victory.
