Avangard secured a much-needed victory against Sibir, winning 3-2 in front of 11,502 fans at G-Drive Arena in Omsk. This victory marked the end of Avangard's painful seven-game losing streak, with newly-arrived Ryan Spooner playing a key role.
The first period saw both teams testing each other's defenses, but despite some power plays, neither side could break the deadlock. Avangard's Reed Boucher hit the crossbar, while Taylor Beck of Sibir had a near-miss, but it remained scoreless at the break.
Early in the second period, Sibir capitalized on a power play as Andy Andreoff tipped in a perfect feed from Beck, opening the scoring. Soon after, Sibir doubled their lead when Georgy Belousov finished a swift counterattack. Avangard responded quickly, with Igor Martynov finding the back of the net after a setup from Nikita Kholodilin and Semyon Chistyakov. Avangard continued to press, and Linden Vey's solo effort tied the game 2-2, leaving the teams level heading into the final period.
The third period saw Avangard dominate, controlling possession and generating chances, though they struggled to break through Sibir's defense. Sibir played cautiously, hoping to hold on for overtime. However, with just over a minute remaining, Spooner, assisted by Boucher and Vey, scored the game-winning goal off a rebound. Despite Sibir pulling their goalie and taking a late timeout, Avangard held firm, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
