The East Coast Super-league plays a 20 game season with 2 game semi final series.

There will be three, twenty minute running time periods, with the last five minutes of the game stop time

Each team will have submitted their team lists at IHNSW by now, which some players who have not played 7 regular season games will be denied clearance to play in the finals along with un-financial players still owing season fees.
The ECSL Semi Finals have since its conception been a cumulative aggregate based series, therefore the scores that are recorded the first game carry over to the second game. (Example) If team A win 4-2 in game one, then team B must score 3-0 in game 2 to win the series.
Similar to previous years the score from Game 1 is put up on the scoreboard at the beginning of Game 2. At the end of Game 2 and it is still a draw then the game will go into continuous OT until a winner is reached.

The ECSL Grand Final series is not aggregate but rather best out of 3. So if Team A win both games then they are deemed If after game three of the Grand Final series & it is still a draw then there will be continuous OT to determine a winner.

The East Coast Superleague is New South Wales senior contact competition and is run under the direction of a committee of the New South Wales Ice Hockey. An amalgam of the former Junior and Senior A divisions the league was created to bridge the gap between junior hockey and the national leagues, providing an avenue for those players seeking to make the move into the national leagues but also giving those who wish to play competitive contact hockey the opportunity.

To maximize competitiveness the Sydney based league teams are based on a draft system keeping the teams, within the league, to a balance ensuring close competitive hockey.

The East Coast Superleague plays a 20 game season with 2 game semi final series and a 3 game final series, the only Australian league to play a multi game post season, and drawn regular time play off games are determined by over time not penalty shoot outs, another rarity in Australian hockey.

Although Sydney based, 2005 saw the Newcastle Northstars enter the ECSL placing their national league farm team into the competition.

2013 sees the ECSL enter its 11th season looking to build further on the success already achieved and further fulfill its primary aim of improving the quality of New South Wales and Australian ice hockey.

The ECSL started in 2002 with four teams, expanded to six teams in 2005. The withdrawal of the Ice Breakers in 2001 and entry of the Reach Rebels in 2011 have restored the league to six teams.
