Teams from Virsliga and 1st League play in knock-out rounds. Virsliga finalists begin from quarter-finals. Every game is played with home/away format
Latvian Cup history
1994/1995. Was the first edition since independence of Latvian Cup. In the finals Pardaugava beat "Essamika (7:2). The tournament was used to determine the Latvian representative in the Continental Cup.
1995/1996. season there have been held in a special tournament, which was called the Latvian Hockey League Play-offs or Latvian cup. In the final series of three wins Alianse Riga beat Essamika (2:0,3:4,7:4,6:3).
Latvian Cup also took place in 1998/1999. season. Liepajas Metalurgs beats in two games "NIK's" (8:2, 3:1).
Also in 2007/2008 there was a tournament called Latvian Cup. In the Finals "Liepajas Metalurgs" won "Riga 2000" (3:0, 4:1).
2008/2009. In autumn 2008 took place a tournament, called the Latvian Cup. Five teams competed in an home/away round robin. Liepajas Metalurgs won the tournament ahead of Latgale Daugavpils, ASK Ogre, "Riga 2000" and "LSPA / Riga".

Mogo retains Latvian Cup
After a thrilling final, played at Arena Riga in front of 2500 fans, HK Mogo keep the Latvian Cup in its trophies room defeating, as in last season, HK Kurbad 3-2 at overtime with the decisive goal scored by Ronalds Cinks at 62:57. The two goalies, Henrijs Ančs and Mārtiņš Raitums were awarded as team's MVP

Current national champion HK Mogo win the first edition of new format of Latvian Cup, a tournament resumed after being played on and off in the past, , by beating 4-3 HK Kurbads with a spectacular comeback from 0-3 in the final, played at Arena Riga in front of 2150 spectators. Mogo forward Miks Lipsbergs, with 2 goals and one assist, earns the MVP title.
