In the derby between the two neighbours where Krefeld could present a full house for the first time this season, it was Patrick Hager who brought Krefeld in front after ten minutes when he could get the puck past Robert Goepfert after several nice dekes when he was alone in front of him. In an even match the guests from Düsseldorf earned a rather lucky equalizer. After three and a half miniutes of the middle period Scott Langkow made a great save against Tyler Beechey but the rebound hit the skate of Boris Blank from where the puck went over the goal line. Ten minutes later the guests had their third power play of the night and Connor James surprised Langkow from a sharp angle to turn the game around. Again the hosts were really unlucky as the puck went in between the legs of the goalie and the post. Early in the third Ben Gordons one timer into the top corner of the goal brought the early decision in this derby. Now Krefeld had to react and they had 12-4 shots on goal in the last period but Goepfert did a great job for the Metro Stars between the goal posts. Instead of a comeback Beechey scored another one three minutes prior to the end. For Krefeld head coach Rick Adduono it could have been his last game behind the bench.
In Nürnberg bottom club Ice Tigers received league leaders Adler Mannheim. Just two days after the 4-1 away win against the Kölner Haie, the Bavarians wanted to give Mannheim also a hard fight. Prior to the game Mannheims head coach had warned his team not to undererstimate Nürnberg as Mannheim lost its first away game in Nürnberg after over time. His players didn't seem to have listened carefully. After a first period without goals where Nürnberg was already the better side they showed deadley precision in their power play during the middle period. Chris Collins, Vitalij Aab and Shane Joseph all scored with an advantage in players on the ice. In the last 20 minutes it was Yan Stastny who even did increase that lead. Christoph Ullman could only score the consolation goal for the 4-1 final score.

The Kölner Haie once more disgraces themselves. For the team of Uwe Krupp it was already the third loss in regular time against the three worst teams of the league table within a week - and after the 1-4 against Nürnberg on Wednesday the second at home. Despite an early lead by Jason Jaspers after eight minutes in the power play, the hosts couldn't score another one and so it came what had to come. After not even a minute in the middle period Ryan Maki tied the game for the Hannover Scorpions. Eight minutes later Scott King found the back of the net after a nice pass by Stephan Wilhelm to give the guests the surprising lead. The Haie now played with a lot of pressure and were rewarded with the equalizer by team captain John Tripp in another power play situation after 47 minutes. In the following time Cologne wasted many chances, including a 5 on 3 power play, so that Ryan Maki could deflect a shot by Nikolaus Mondt just a minute prior to the end of the regular time to give Hannover the late game winning goal.

In their home game against Augsburg the Eisbären Berlin had the chance to become new league leaders of the DEL. In an even first period the guests who are the worst away team of the year 2011 in the DEL, gained a two-goal lead after Chad Bassen and Greg Moore had scored. The hosts now intensified their efforts but in the middle period they could only cut the guest lead to one goal when Frank Hördler caught the puck with his gloves and was succesfull with a hard shot past the again strong away goalie Tyler Weiman (23.). Early in the third Florian Busch (in power play) and Sven Felski gave the match the definite change. Despite playing without the goalie in the last 92 seconds Augsburg couldn't change the result anymore while Berlin now is first in the table.
In the fourth and last Bavarian derby between Straubing and München this season the fans had to wait long for the first goal. Almost at the "half time" of the match it was Sandro Schönberger who brought the hosts in front with a nice back hander after a fast attack with only two passes from their own defending zone to the other side of the ice. Two minutes later Bruno St. Jacques with a one-timer increased the lead for Straubing. In the last period München tried to find a way back into the game but instead French international Laurent Meunier made everything clear three and a half minutes prior to the end of the last period. For Straubings goalie Jan Guryca it was the first shutout of the season.
In the top game of the DEL matchday both teams had to substitute injured key players. In the first period David Laliberté brought the home team in front when he deflected a blue line shot from Robbie Bina. The lead after the first 20 minutes was a bit lucky as Hamburg had 16 to 7 shots on goal. Late in the second Nathan Paetsch used a power play to score the 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season - three of them with a men advantage. In the middle of the last Patrick Davis scored short handed to end all hope for the Freezers. For Wolfsburg goalie Dshunussow it was the sixth shoutout this season.
