Finnish players showed their best in Monday's KHL games: Hat-trick for Anssi Salmela and second straight shutout by Ari Ahonen.
Avangard 4-2 BarysAvangard won for the second time with Raimo Summanen in this season. In the first period Barys gave them three power-play chances but no one was used as it should be. Only when Avangard got two minutes penalty for too many players on the ice the score changed. Anssi Salmela scored a shorthanded goal and opened the scoring at 30:09. Three minutes later Anton Kuryanov who was in the penalty box during first goal assisted to Anssi Salmela in a power-play. The same happened 1:40 later and Salmela made his first hat-trick in KHL. Nigel Dawes and Andre Hutchinson cut the lead of Avangard in the third but Yegor Averin saved the 2-goal lead for his team.
Metallurg Mg 2-0 TraktorFinnish goalie of Metallurg Mg Ari Ahonen made the third shutout in the last 4 games. The game was scoreless until 56:02 when Maxim Sushinsky with a one-timer gave his team a lead. Sergei Mozyakin gave a nice backhand pass from the board. With 39 seconds to play in the third Tomas Rolinek closed the game with an empty-net shorthanded goal. Both goalies played a high-quality game stopping 54 shots and conceding only one, both of them stoned 27 shots. It was a first Traktor road loss in the last 7 games. It was the last Chelyabinsk Area derby in this season and it ended 2-2.
Yugra 6-1 AvtomobilistWJC-2011 champion Stanislav Bocharov seemed to find his team; in the last games he made only two assists but tonight scored twice. He gave his team a quick lead at 02:39. The game deciding moment happened from 17:47 to 18:54 when Yugra scored three times. Igor Skorokhodov, Yevgeny Fyodorov, Pavel Vorobyov decided the game in their account. In the second Avtomobilist tried to return the game but only managed to score one time. Andrei Shepelenko with the first goal of the season did it. In the third period Vitaly Sitnikov and Stanislav Bocharov closed the game. Mikhail Biryukov stopped 30 shots and won his 13th game of the season.
Atlant 3-2SO SpartakIn the new year Spartak ended all its games only in shootout series and the last game of the road series ended that way. The Moscow team started with getting a quick lead in the 5th minute of the game. Alexander Komaristy opened the scoring with a wrist shot. Three minutes later he had a chance to score from a penalty shot but was stopped by Konstantin Barulin. Valery Pokrovsky fired under the bar in the second to extend Spartak's lead. It was the first goal for Pokrovsky in this season for Spartak. A 2-minute span in the middle of the game helped Atlant to tie the game. Jonas Andersson and Nikolai Zherdev beat Spartak's goalie Ivan Kasutin. It was a rare game when Spartak outshot its opponent 43-39. The winner was defined in a shootout series. Jonas Andersson and Andrei Zubarev scored for Atlant and only Stefan Ruzicka for Spartak.
SKA 7-0 VityazAnother huge loss for Vityaz happened in St. Petersburg after being beating by Torpedo 7-1 in last game. At 5 seconds of the game Ivan Larin attacked Yevgeny Artykhin. The difference height was so appreciable and Artykhin easily beat his opponent. What about the game? SKA easily scored 7 times and earned a first shutout for their goalie Ilya Yezhov. Tony Mårtensson and Maxim Rybin scored in the first, Igor Makarov and Vitaly Vishnevsky added in the second, Denis Denisov, Rybin again and Klimenko finished in the third. Also SKA outshot Vityaz 43-22.
Torpedo 7-1 SeverstalTorpedo continued its winning series at home beating Severstal. Early in the first Dmitry Makarov with his sole move gave Torpedo the lead. In a 39 seconds span in the second the home team extended the lead to 3 goals. Juuso Hietanen and Alexei Ugarov were on fire. Two Potapov's added their second period's goals to the whole deal. Early in the third Alexander Yevseyenkov and Ruslan Zainullin extended the lead to 7 goals. Severstal only answered with Maxim Chudinov's goal. Pekka Tuokkola didn't seen the shot because of the screen in front of him.
Dinamo Riga 1-0OT Dynamo MoscowIn last game of the day Dinamo Riga faced with their rivals from Moscow. In the second period Moscow team had two opportunities to score from penalty shots. Firstly, Leo Komarov came from the penalty box and was stopped by defense. Christopher Holt stopped Komarov's low penalty shot. 5 minutes later Artyom Chernov tried to beat Holt in penalty shot duel, but again the Canadian goalie was better. As a result Holt stopped 30 shots this night and earned the 4th shutout of this season. The game was ended in overtime where Janis Sprukts was first and fast on a rebound to lead his team to this important win.
